Packing up and Moving

This new year has already brought a lot of change for us. We have packed up our few personal items that we have left and moved into Jon's parents house. It was a little hard to pick and choose what few things we were going to keep and store, but we feel good to have gotten rid of so much stuff. It is amazing how much you can accumulate after only 4 1/2 years.

We spent a weekend at Candace's parents place. Clara especially loved playing with Nana, Papa and Uncle Jase!

As of January 1st we are both employees of Wycliffe Canada. We have been very busy with our new roles already. No we are not working in the computer and dental hygiene fields but we have many other things to do.  We have to update our OHIP status, cancel car insurance, keep in touch with all of our supporters, get rid of our car, buy last minute items to take with us, purchase carry on luggage, organize transportation in PNG, figure out how to complete our 2012 tax returns, etc. It is also so important to us to see our family and friends before we go.

The excitement and nerves have both settled in. We cannot wait to set up our house when we get to Ukarumpa and start living there. We are looking forward to settling down and having some consistency in our lives. However, we have started to realize how we will miss everyone back home. The Lord is our constant strength when doubts creep into our hearts. We are so excited that the Lord has called us to work with Wycliffe by aiding the progress of Bible translation.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

  1. Jon & Candace, all the best, God's best, with all you have to do. And dealing with the feelings that surround it. We understand a tiny bit. Because of Nad & Ian, and because we were in PNG 2010. AND we have a walk-in closet that stores their stuff :)
    We never made it to Ukarumpa in '10 cause Tom was ill. But who knows, we may D.V. in '14.
    Scripture says that all those who leave behind family and loved ones for Christ's sake have a special reward. I am sure you are finding, and will find this so.In our prayers, Carla Zietsma

  3. Good morning Jon and Candace and girls! I pray you might find encouragement today with your travel preparations in listening to this song by the Getty's: A Worker's Prayer entitled Before You I Kneel
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPVtx_HCpOo
    First Verse:
    Before You I kneel, my Master and Maker
    To offer the work of my hands.
    For this is the day You’ve given You’re servant;
    I will rejoice and be glad
    For the strength I have to live and breathe;
    For each skill Your grace has given me;
    For the needs and opportunities
    That will glorify You great Name.

  5. How's everything now guys? I hope you didn't experience hassles on the way. Moving has always been a daunting task for a lot of people. When we moved, I made sure that each package is secured. I labeled them accordingly and made a list of my things so that I'd instantly know whether I lost something or not. Thanks for sharing. Good luck! :)
